Hey! New creature out!
Three more til I hit 50. Then I plan to do something special for my creature stuff. Which will probably take forever. Does anyone even read this?
Oh yeah - here's the text found in the image:
"Hello everyone! Today we will be discussing Cradle Obelns! Obelns are a type of reptimal. We haven’t covered many reptimals, so here’s the details: Repitmals share characteristics that are similar to both mammals and reptiles. Most are able to shift between endo and ectothermic lifestyles, using half the energy as a mammal but less efficient than a reptile. They also can grow both hair and scales. They’re largely related to aviamammals as well. Obelns are a type of large, mostly carnivorous, horned Repitmals found largely near the south of Lyngaea.
But we’re here for the Cradle Obeln! They’re known mostly for two things: Their unique horns and their incredible parenting skills. They have strong family bonds and are extremely social creatures. We know that the most recent known common ancestor is a Pansicornitherium, whose horns were spread out much wider but seems over time they have come to point to the center, forming a sharp point. Researchers believe this is because of the many flooding in southern Lyngaea that was occurring millions of years ago. There’s no concrete evidence of why this was occurring, but we believe they began to live semi-aquatically. They began to carry their young on their head and backs, and would periodically submerge to look for plants or catch fish if able. At first they would swish their heads around to catch fish with their horns, but overtime natural selection began to favor those with pointier and more forward facing horns. Over time the horns began to point towards the middle – forming a sharp point. At some point their young began to ride on their heads when swimming over deeper water. As the floods and excess water began to wane, they largely shifted over to using their horns to carry their young, and to bring back kills to the nest.
Obelns can swivel their neck up and down and slightly left to right, but range is limited. They can move their neck downwards to eat, using their powerful chest and back muscles help to lift and move it’s large head. Their horns are rather lightweight, but still durable and fairly strong. To eat, their long tongue, covered in grooves that are adept at ensnaring plants, moss, lichens, etc. They prefer to eat carrion, usually just stealing from smaller, more successful hunters.
Cradle Obelns largely live on the south of Lyngaea. Where there are steppes and plains slightly inland from the southern ocean, there are decently large populations of Cradle Obelns. Unfortunately, due to to some aggressive urbanization in O’Dea’ Lis, they are now considered to be a vulnerable animal."
